Wolastoq River Resort Casino
Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation) announced a $170-million casino resort for 489 Union Street, the former MacLean’s Sports site: a 30,000-square-foot casino, a hotel with more than 100 rooms, a spa and a 1,000-seat event centre. Construction is targeted for 2027.

The converted-bus outdoor bar on King Street poured its last on July 10 after the planning advisory committee refused to renew its temporary permit, citing noise, police calls and the lack of a permanent structure.

Chess Piece Pâtisserie, Queen Street
After fourteen years the owner sold up, citing costs. The space went to Seul Ah Jang and Seungho Kim of Boulangerie Seoul, which is how a French pâtisserie becomes a Korean bagel shop, which is how cities work.
