When a priest dies in Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, the village faces an unusual problem: two graves are dug, one on each side of the cemetery fence. For three days, the community debates whether he deserves consecrated ground or burial on the other side. During the wake, the priest's widow shares a story that upends everything the village thought it knew about him. Pellerin explores how quickly certainty crumbles when hidden truths surface, and how a small community's court of public opinion renders its own particular kind of justice.
